The UK Puppy Industry Report 2025
Puppies.co.uk is back with its annual pet industry report, providing a fresh look at the state of dog breeding and ownership in the UK, from the most sought-after breeds to changes in buyer behaviour. Read on for the latest insights.
Who We Are
Puppies.co.uk is one of the UK’s largest dog classified platforms, connecting prospective owners with breeders while providing guidance and advice on responsible puppy ownership
We actively promote responsible breeding and dog ownership, and continue to partner with Agria Pet Insurance to help raise standards and encourage best practice across the industry
Every month, more than 200,000 unique pet buyers visit Puppies.co.uk in search of their ideal companion
Every litter listed on the site is reviewed against breed-specific criteria, based on recommendations from the relevant breed clubs. Each listing is then given a star rating that reflects both the breeder and the litter
Our 5-star listings appear higher in search results and attract more views. As a result, buyers using Puppies.co.uk are up to eight times more likely to connect with a high-quality litter that meets our standards
In 2025, we accepted nearly 15,000 litters and blocked over 5,000
We help every dog find the right home by providing a trusted, transparent platform that connects buyers with reputable breeders
Most Popular Dog Breeds
The Cockapoo remains the UK’s favourite dog, with 359,024 listing views. Although listing views dipped slightly from last year at 421,512 views, the much-loved crossbreed still comfortably holds onto the top spot.
One of the biggest movers in 2025 is the Dachshund. Last year, the small breed took the fourth spot, with 242,168 views listing views. It has now climbed to second place, with listing views increasing by 16%, reaching 281,062. The Cocker Spaniel slipped to third, with 262,609 views.
Labrador Retrievers dropped to fourth (215,318 views) while French Bulldogs (154,690 views) were pushed out of the top five and dropped to eighth place, overtaken by the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, which rounded off the top five with 184,208 views.

In response to the findings, a spokesperson at puppies.co.uk said: “We’re continuing to see growing interest in smaller dog breeds, which isn’t surprising given the amount of negative news stories surrounding certain breeds. But many of these breeds are being unfairly judged based on headlines, not necessarily reality.
“Our message to prospective dog owners remains the same. Any dog has the potential to display behavioural issues, just as any dog can be loving, loyal and well-behaved. It all comes down to responsible ownership. Proper training, socialisation and care are far more important than a dog’s size or breed label.
“Breed-specific classifications and bans risk oversimplifying a much more complex issue and can discourage people from considering dogs that could make wonderful pets in the right home. Instead of focusing on stereotypes, owners should take the time to do their research, understand a breed’s individual needs and choose a dog that truly fits their lifestyle. Education and responsible ownership will always be more effective than blanket bans.”

Methodology
Puppies.co.uk analysed data from thousands of dogs listed on the platform between January and December 2025.
Website traffic data was collected using Google Analytics, while levels of buyer interest and demand were measured based on the number of listing views and enquiries generated by each breed.
To identify the most and least affordable dog breeds, thousands of listings published throughout 2025 were reviewed. To ensure the findings were reliable, breeds with a low number of listings were excluded from the final rankings.
