PUPPIES' BREEDING
These puppies are 75% Siberian Husky and 25% Alaskan Malamute, giving them a distinctive mix of the bear-like size and steadier temperament of the Malamute bloodlines with the striking looks and social nature of a Husky.
On their father’s side, the puppies come from established Alaskan Malamute show lines. Their paternal great-grandfather, Amelhuk Empire of New Era at Artictundra (the father of their Alaskan Malamute grandmother), has shown and placed at Crufts over several years. It’s a pedigree that continues to show in both their appearance and their calm, confident character.
MEET THE PARENTS
Dad is a two-year-old 50% Siberian Husky and 50% Alaskan Malamute – a large, powerful boy who combines the best of both breeds with an unusually affectionate and gentle nature. He's highly intelligent, understands a wide range of spoken communication, and has excellent recall and obedience for a northern breed.
Despite his size, he's gentle with smaller animals (he's often found curled up, or gently playing with our 2kg cat while she pulls out her best ninja moves to take him down) and is trusted off lead around my horse and on a busy livery yard – we share a great deal of trust, a close bond, and he is a dear friend.
Mum is a two-year-old pure Siberian Husky with a striking wolf-like appearance and an equally striking personality. She moves with a quiet authority – often so gently and softly that you don't notice she's there until you feel her lean into you. She's deeply affectionate, forms close one-to-one bonds with her people, and is never happier than curled up beside you on the sofa or bed. She is also highly intelligent, communicating what she needs throughout her pregnancy and nursing through understated cues.
HOME LIFE
Our dogs are deeply loved family pets and live inside the home with us at all times, sharing beds and sofas, and spend their days alongside me in my home office (the kitchen). They are never kennelled, and crates/beds placed in family rooms are left open to provide them with a safe space to relax, or chew a toy, but where they can come and go as they please.
They are fed a raw diet (BARF 80/10/10), with a wide variety of proteins including beef, chicken, guinea fowl, rabbit and wild boar, together with eggs, fresh whole sprats, raw meaty bones and a range of fruits, vegetables and superfoods such as blueberries, spinach, seaweed and kelp.
Based in the South East, they’re exercised on the South Downs, in groups and individually, socialised on equestrian livery yards, dog meet-ups, and attend puppy groups and regular training, including agility and sniffer dog classes.
FROM PREGNANCY TO PUPPYHOOD
During whelping and nursing, Mum has been provided with her own quiet area in the house (an upstairs bedroom) where she can relax and raise her puppies without disturbance. I sleep alongside Mum and puppies from whelping to six weeks and beyond, and provide round-the-clock care and supervision.
From birth, the puppies receive daily handling and have completed Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI). They're on a regular worming programme and are being weaned onto a premium raw diet (Paleo Ridge).
As they grow, they'll be introduced to a range of household sounds, surfaces and experiences to help them develop into confident, well-rounded companions. Toilet training has begun using indoor artificial grass mats/trays, and at just four weeks old, these babies are already using the grass when it's time to go. From around six weeks they'll start meeting our adult dogs – of varying ages and temperaments – as well as our resident cat.
WHAT THE PUPPIES ARE LIKE
These puppies are a wonderful combination of both their parents’ personalities.
They are remarkably calm, affectionate and genuinely people-focused. As soon as you enter the pen they climb onto laps, seek cuddles, and happily settle when held. They seem naturally comforted by touch and will relax completely in your arms.
Looks-wise, the puppies are developing beautifully, with strong bone structure, solid builds and lovely symmetrical markings. Finley and Nighttime currently have broader, rounder heads, wider-set ears and thicker, more plush coats, suggesting they may take more after the Malamute side of their heritage. Ash, Delta and Star have finer facial features, slightly more upright ears and a lighter overall look, and are likely to develop a more Husky-influenced appearance.
Northern breeds have a reputation for independence, but the dogs behind this litter have always been companions first. Even at this young age, the puppies are already showing signs that they are likely to form close, trusting bonds and become a true part of the family.
